"Jack" as I affectionately called him was as good a friend as you could have. The nicest, sweetest guy I ever knew. We had more fun over the years we hung out than anyone I've known. Unfortunately he smoked like a chimney and it got him in the end. It's not fair that such a great friend was taken so early, but he lives on with me every day of my life.  RIP "Jack!"  He's up there "doing the jimmy"  right now making everyone laugh with his infectious humor.

Obit announcement from March of 2011.

Music industry executive Joey Averback died March 18 at his home in Studio City after a two-year battle with oral cancer. He was 59.

Averback, the son of the late actor and TV director Hy Averback, was vp sales and marketing at Westwind Media in Burbank, where he began 12 years ago as an executive liaison for soundtracks on such films as Hope Floats and Selena.

Averback began his career producing music and developing artists with composer Mike Post and then worked in A&R for Jobete Music and Elektra.

Survivors include wife Suzanne Benedict, son Evan, brother Marc and sister Amy.
