I knew Michael very well. he was a terrific guy. Smart, good looking and fun to be around. The last time I saw him was in NY in the early 70's. He never said a harsh thing about anyone. And he was a good friend.
Michael Kaiser was the kindest boy I knew. He was one of my dance partners Russell Sheinkopf the other! (At different times). Michael knew after he started UCLA that he was Gay. It was difficult for him to make the final decision to embrace himself as his true self. We were in close contact during that time. He asked me if I would stay with him so he didn't have to embrace his true self. But he knew he needed to be him. The most unfortunate part of this is it was the beginning of AIDS/HIV. Michael was born in NYC so it made sense for him to go back. The Bars/Bathhouses were very popular and attended regularly. Unfortunately that was probably where he contracted the disease and ultimately was his undoing.
the government knew how AIDS was transferred long before we were told. Something as simple as a condom might have saved his life. Michael was bright, kind, talented and very handsome. It breaks my heart that we lost him so young.
