We have received information from Toni's Horace Mann classmate Bruce, that Toni passed away from acute myeloid leukemia on January 26, 2023. A memorial service was held on May 11, 2024. RIP lovely Toni.
So very sorry to hear of her passing. I have known her since kindergarten. We grew up a block away. She was my first girlfriend. And the first girl I ever kissed when we played. Some party game, where you went into a closet and kissed. May her memory be for a blessing.
It is surprsingly hard for me to write these words. My memories of Toni are conflicted. On one hand, she was a little girl who tormented some of us at Horace Mann. On the other hand, she realized her behavior was not always the kindness. Then young Toni would try to regain one's friendship thanks to the urging of her mother. At Beverly, I rarely saw her, if at all. My understanding later on in life was she received much of her schooling at home. If any of you have saved what we wrote for our reunions, I mentioned Toni in one of them.
I give thanks to Toni for helping me become the person I am today. She gave me the strength to live in a society that is not always kind. For this I will remember her and be forever grateful. I hope Toni had a good life. Wherever she may be now, I wish her peace and happines....and not suffering. I will always remember her.
Well this is upsetting. Toni was an icon to we surfers at Tee's. I never knew her and never spoke to her. But I damn well knew who she was! My fondest memory of her was three and four of us guys piling into the back seat of someone's car circa 1968 summer and Toni and Roxanne Shepard playfully jumped in on top of us. She asked me if she was too heavy and I said no you're just right. She smiled and laughed. That's the way I'd like to remember her. RIP sweet Toni
Tees! Thanks for the prompt Lon! Aka all the other names it was called, became home to a few of us that last half of the 60's. Toni was one of those...and her independence and freedom were inspirational. Having lived most of my life as a wandering surf/fish-gypsy, and still living mostly fulltime on the Mexican coast, it was an early lesson learned. Much love and light to you dear one!
